Wet weather will overspread the D.C. region this evening before tapering off around midnight.

Scattered showers will diminish after midnight as skies gradually clear. By dawn, temperatures will range from the middle 30s to lower 40s.

Dry and seasonably cool weather returns with highs in the mid 40s under a mix of sun and clouds.

Friday morning will start off sub-freezing for some of our suburbs. We’ll round out the week dry and cold with highs in the 40s. A few flurries are possible, but otherwise it will be a low impact weather day for last minute holiday shopping and festive parties.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny, breezy

Winds: Northwest 10-20, gusts to 25 mph
After a cold start with wake-up temperatures in the teens and 20s, highs will struggle to reach the 40 degree mark. Gusts to 25 miles per hour at times will add an extra chill. Saturday is also the winter solstice, or the first day of winter. Meteorological winter began Dec. 1.
SUNDAY: Sunny and cold
Highs: 30-35
Winds: North 10-15 mph
The first full day of winter will likely be one of the coldest since the turn of the century. Highs will range from the upper 20s to lower 30s with wind chills in the 20s.
