California teen survives fall from prom bus

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California teenager riding a bus to her high school prom fell out a window onto a highway but wasn’t seriously injured.

A California Highway Patrol officer tells the Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/1lh58Lv) that 50 Corona del Mar High School students were on the bus Saturday night when 17-year-old Charlotte Boyse fell.

According to her father, the girl leaned back to let someone pass and the window gave way, but as she fell two friends grabbed her and were able to turn her upright so she didn’t land on her head. It’s unclear how fast the bus was moving.

The girl managed to get out of lanes and onto the highway’s center divider.

She was treated for cuts and bruises and released from a hospital Sunday.
