PALMER PARK, Md. (AP) — A Prince George’s County man is charged in his 3-year-old son’s death after authorities say they don’t believe drugs found in the boy’s system got there by accident.
County police announced Friday that 38-year-old Thomas Holland of Palmer Park has been charged with first-degree child abuse and manslaughter. Police say Holland drove the unresponsive boy to United Medical Center in southeast Washington in January and he was pronounced dead a short time later. Officers were called for a death investigation.
Toxicology results found drugs in the boy’s system, including toxic levels of cocaine, acetaminophen and codeine, and police say the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide. Given the amount of drugs and chemicals in his system, police say authorities don’t believe they were ingested accidentally.
