GENEVA (AP) — Christie’s says its spring auction has sold a world record of $154.2 million in jewelry including the largest flawless vivid blue diamond in the world.
The auction house says “The Winston Blue,” a pear-shaped 13.22-carat diamond, fetched $23.8 million, which also set a world auction record of $2 million per carat for a blue diamond.
It said Thursday that a 1912 Cartier diamond brooch brought $17.5 million, which is 660 percent more than when it was first sold at Christie’s in Geneva in 1991, while a pear-shaped and D-color flawless 75.97-carat diamond sold for almost $14.5 million.
Christie’s haul Wednesday night topped the world record set just a night earlier in Geneva when Sotheby’s sold $141.5 million of jewelry including the 100.09-carat “Graff Vivid Yellow” diamond ring for $16.3 million..
