STAUNTON, Va. (AP) — Staunton police are investigating the deaths of two dogs that were found hanging by their leashes in a kennel.
Police tell media outlets that the chain link kennel was upright but it wasn’t secured in the ground. Investigators noticed that the kennel had shifted.
The dogs’ retractable leashes were attached to the kennel.
Police say it’s possible that the dogs’ deaths were a freak accident caused by high winds.
The kennel was in the yard outside the home of the dogs’ owner.
Police found the dogs on Sunday after a caller reported that they were dead.
Police are reviewing video surveillance from a neighbor to see if it can could provide clues.
