Celebrating its 90th Anniversary, Seabury Resources for Aging was originally incorporated as the Episcopal Church Home to provide affordable retirement living options. A single family home, donated by Cornelia Jones, became the first residence for older persons, and within a decade, there were five homes and 31 residents. Ninety years later, Seabury offers 355 affordable housing units for the elderly and directly serves 10,000 individuals in the greater Washington, DC area with essential services, including housing, meals, counseling, transportation, and care management. The mission of Seabury Resources for Aging is to provide personalized, affordable services and housing options to help older adults in the greater Washington, DC area live with independence and dignity. Community services include: the Seabury Connector, a free citywide medical and non-medical transportation service for those 60 and older; Ward 5 and Ward 6 Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC’s), providing congregate and home delivered meals as well as several other direct social support services to seniors in those wards of the District; Age-In-Place, offering free heavy house cleaning and yard work to elders in Wards 4 and 5 of the District; the Home First Residences, providing 20 units of permanent and supportive housing to seniors at high risk of homelessness; and Care Management, connecting experienced social workers with older adults and their caregivers as they navigate the life challenges associated with aging.
