WASHINGTON — The FBI wants help sniffing out public corruption in Northern Virginia.
Citing the nature of deals “made in whispered conversations and sealed with quick handshakes” a news release says the best way to stop secretive crimes is with help from concerned citizens offering tips.
The FBI release characterizes the vast majority of public officials as honest, committed public servants, but it details examples of situations people might encounter where bribery and/or kickbacks are made in exchange for official action.
Nefarious deals might involve town councils or mayors, Department of Motor Vehicle employees, health inspectors, taxing or zoning assessors or other regulatory agency employees.
