Keeping that New Year’s resolution

WASHINGTON – Sticking with a New Year’s resolution is tough, but the payoff is so sweet.

Just ask Elizabeth Thackery, from Ijamsville, Md. She took on a challenge greater than most.

“In the beginning, when you realize you have 100 or 150 pounds to lose, it can just stop your New Year’s resolutions in their tracks,” Thackery says.

But Thackery, a young mom of three, made a resolution to get healthy at the beginning of 2013. She stuck with it and lost a total of 110 pounds.

What’s her secret weapon?

“I stumbled into a form of exercise that I absolutely loved and I loved it so much, I kept coming back,” she says.

That exercise was Zumba.

“The first Zumba class I walked into, I thought I was going to throw up at minute 20,” she says, adding that a little willpower goes a long way.

“I have three children and I homeschool my oldest. You can do this,” Thackery says she would tell herself.
