WASHINGTON – A suspected drunk driver is in custody and a police officer hospitalized after a crash in Laurel, Md., early Friday morning.
Both directions of Route 1 between Contee and Muirkirk were temporarily closed for the investigation. To roads reopened at about 4:30 a.m.
A Prince George’s County Police spokesperson tells WTOP a car was speeding in the wrong direction on Route 1 when it struck the officer’s police cruiser. The driver of that car wasn’t hurt.
The officer’s injuries aren’t life threatening and he was released from the hospital by Friday morning.
The driver, who police say may have been driving under the influence of alcohol, is facing charges.
