WASHINGTON — Macy’s will break with 150 years of tradition on Thanksgiving Day this year when it opens for the first time on the holiday itself.
Many of the department stores across the nation will open at 8 p.m. on Thursday, including flagship locations in New York, Chicago San Francisco and Miami.
All Macy’s locations in D.C., Maryland and Virginia will be open.
The Sun Times reports Macy’s State Street location in Chicago will open at 8 p.m. and remain open for 24 hours to fully participate in Black Friday.
It’s not clear whether local Macy’s will be open 24 hours.
The stores will offer limited-time specials on a wide assortment of goods, including fragrances, clothing and kitchen goods.
“Black Friday is the biggest shopping event of the year and brings with it a level of fun and excitement to our customers around the nation,” says a store spokesman in a news release. “It’s important to make this day enjoyable and convenient for everyone.”
