WASHINGTON – An actress received some backlash over the weekend for her choice to wear blackface as part of a Halloween costume.
“Dancing With the Stars” alumna and actress Julianne Hough showed up for a Halloween party Friday night in blackface, an orange jumpsuit and a knotted updo — a nod to the character “Crazy Eyes” played by actress Uzo Aduba on Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black,” according to E! News.
Twitter erupted with comments about the 25-year-old’s costume choice.
Really don't even understand why you'd think that'd be cool or overlooked. Since when was Black face cool? @juliannehough

@juliannehough you are ridiculous. Be a bigger fan of history and learn blackface is never ok.

On Saturday, Hough responded on Twitter saying “I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.”
