WASHINGTON – The search for a gold or silver iPhone 5S requires patience and luck. And even the gray models are tough to find.
An easy-to-use but unofficial tool can check local Apple stores, to determine which, if any, 5S models are on hand.
iPhone-Check lets a person enter a ZIP code, choose a color and carrier.
After hitting Submit, the program lists nearby stores, and whether 16GB, 32GB or 64GB phones are in stock.
If a phone is available, the site includes a link to the online Apple Store.
In reply to a question from WTOP, developer Mordy Tikotzky says the information is up-to-date.
“I am polling the Apple site for data, as you make the request. So, it should be the same data that is shown on their site,” Tikotzky said in a tweet
Tikotzky says he is 29 and from New Jersey.
A recent search of local stores in D.C., Virginia and Maryland found no gold or silver phones in stock, but many gray phones available.
Citing high demand, Apple has says it won’t ship new gold or silver phones until October.
