WASHINGTON – This weekend’s concert highlights include some big names and even a free concert. Read on for the best bets.
Friday
- The Flaming Lips and Tame Impala are scheduled to perform at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The Flaming Lips are known for visually impressive live shows.
- Former Men At Work frontman Colin Hay begins a three-night run at the Birchmere. Hay has enjoyed a successful solo career after a resurgence almost 10 years ago.
- Indie-country rockers the Defibulators are scheduled to perform a free concert at Hill Country Barbecue. The Brooklyn-based band has been getting a lot of buzz for its “un- hipster” style.

Saturday
- Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck are scheduled to perform at the Warner Theatre. Wilson and Beck are on the first leg of a month-long U.S. tour.
- Country singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver performs at Hill Country Barbecue. Shaver’s songs have been covered by Kris Kristofferson, Bobby Bare, Elvis Presley, and Waylon Jennings.
