Some Fearful Of Losing Surface Parking At Shriver Aquatic Center — Montgomery Parks wants to convert the 250-space surface parking lot at Shriver Aquatic Center into a “great lawn” and park for White Flint. Parking would be consolidated with apartment parking in a garage next door, but some at a meeting last week said they rather the area remain a parking lot. [Friends of White Flint]
Purple Line Supporters Blames Town Of Chevy Chase For No Lynn Drive Crossing — The Action Committee for Transit says the Town of Chevy Chase rejected the state’s offer to build a pedestrian tunnel under the Purple Line at Lynn Drive because “the tracks would have to be raised 10 to 12 feet, giving train passengers a better view of its manicured lawns.” MTA says an at-grade crossing, which the Town wanted, wouldn’t be safe because the trains are coming around a curve at high speed. “For that matter, why won’t the town let people walk down from the interim trail after dark,” asked ACT’s Ben Ross in a press release. “We see once again that the real object here is to exclude non-residents and turn a publicly owned transit right of way into a private preserve for a privileged enclave.”
Survey Shows Most Students Barely Study For Math Final Exams — A survey of 600 students at Rockville High School shows a little more than half of the students studied one hour or less for their final math exams. MCPS administrators are looking for ways to fix high math exam failure rates countywide. Many believe students don’t study for the tests because they’ve already achieved a passing grade in the course. [Washington Post]
