Helicopter dries Washington Redskins’ practice fields

WASHINGTON – A helicopter flew over the fields of Washington Redskins’ training camp Friday morning, but the aircraft wasn’t transporting a celebrity or snapping aerial photos of Bon Secours training camp facility in Richmond. The chopper was there to dry soggy practice fields.

After two days of rain in Richmond, Redskins officials were met with wet practice fields Friday morning. Redskins’ Senior Vice President of Operations Lon Rosenberg called Richmond official Jane Ferrara, who called in a favor, according to The Washington Post.

“He said the fields were drenched from all the rain yesterday, and they were looking for a way to get them dry very quickly,” Ferrara, chief operating officer of economic and community development, tells The Washington Post. “One of the tricks of the trade is to bring in a helicopter to come down on the 50-yard line and blow-dry the fields.”

Richmond’s HeloAir sent a helicopter to dry the fields for free. The chopper hovered over the field for more than 30 minutes before leaving with dry fields below.

President of HeloAir, Whit Baldwin says the request was not an unusual one.

“We’ve dried football fields, baseball fields, soccer fields, we even had a chance to dry the parking lot at Charlotte Motor Speedway,” Baldwin tells The Washington Post.
