WASHINGTON – Are you a miserable D.C. sports fan? A new list says you have plenty of reasons to feel that way.
Forbes places the District ninth on its list of Most Miserable Sports Cities, which the site says aims to rank misery “in the heartbreak sense” — that is, cities whose teams are pretty good, but struggle to make it over the title hump.
Poor records in title games and semifinals, then, earn you some big-time misery points. Championship droughts also were taken into account, along with the ratio of sports seasons to championships.
A bonus is given to cities like Seattle — which ranks at the top of the list — that have lost a major sports team due to relocation.
As for Washington, Forbes notes the Redskins have “some nice history,” but the city’s teams otherwise have only two titles and are regularly booted from the postseason.
The city’s last title was in 1992, and Washington’s cumulative championship round record between the Redskins, Senators, Nationals Wizards and Capitals is 7-11.
