WASHINGTON – Fred Stobaugh saw an advertisement in the local paper about an online singer/songwriter contest and decided to enter. Only, instead of submitting an electronic video or audio file, the 96-year-old man mailed a letter.
Stobaugh is not a musician, but his letter was a song about his late wife, to whom he was married for 73 years.
The contest organizers decided to take Stobaugh’s letter and “bring it to life” with music and photos. The final product is a song, called “Sweet Lorraine.” As of noon on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the song is number 10 in the iTunes store.
