WASHINGTON – Several parts of the D.C. region have the highest percentages of commuters in the country, including one county at the very top of the list.
About 150,000 people make their way to Virginia’s Arlington County each day to work. Governing Magazine reports that Arlington is first when it comes to having the highest number of commuters.
Nearly 77 percent of those who work in the county live elsewhere. The Pentagon is a major employer, as well as several government contracting businesses located in Arlington.
The District comes in second, with 71 percent of the workers with D.C. jobs living in surrounding counties because the government draws in so many employees.
New York City takes the third spot for the most commuters in the country, with 69.5 percent.
