WASHINGTON – This weekend includes several musical tributes for Memorial Day, from country superstar Kenny Chesney to the National Symphony Orchestra.
Saturday
Country superstar Kenny Chesney is scheduled to perform at FedEx Field.
Chesney teamed up with e-commerce site GovX to offer a 50 percent discount on tickets sold to military personnel and government employees. Discounted tickets can be purchased at GovX.com.
In Rockville, Hometown Holidays will feature more than 30 bands as well as food and kids’ activities. The event runs through Monday, and will include a Memorial Day ceremony and parade.
Sunday
Scheduled for Sunday at 8 p.m. at the U.S. Capitol, the National Memorial Day Concert will feature the National Symphony Orchestra, Candice Glover, Chris Mann, Katherine Jenkins and Alfie Boe.
The “President’s Own” United States Marine Band is scheduled to perform at Wolf Trap at 8 p.m.
A fireworks display will follow the concert.
Monday
The Alexandria Memorial Day Jazz Festival will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Waterfront Park.
The free event will feature the Commodores, a big-band unit of the U.S. Navy Band.
