WASHINGTON – A Prince George’s County police officer had to be pulled from his cruiser after it flipped over early Monday in Laurel.

The accident occurred around 2 a.m. along Baltimore Avenue and Contee Road, in front of the Academy Ford dealership.

Police say the officer lost control after hitting the curb. The car hit a lamp post and flipped onto its roof. The lamp post fell on some nearby cars and dirt went flying, witnesses said. The officer had to be cut from his car, but was not injured. He was taken to a hospital to be checked.

There is no information on what initiated the wreck.
