WASHINGTON – Don’t hold your breath for using cellphones underground while riding Metro.
The Washington Examiner reports the company that’s installing the wireless service in the underground stations and tunnels is asking to quit the project.
Powerwave Technologies Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and four workers tell the Examiner they’ve been laid off. The company is waiting for a court hearing but requested that it be allowed to stop installation on the transit system.
The Examiner says the fiscal issues mean riders may have to wait until 2016 for service throughout the system.
