WASHINGTON – One man is dead and another is in critical condition Tuesday evening after they were shot in the Forestville area of Prince George’s County.
Prince George’s police say the men were shot shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of Donnell Drive. One victim, the high school student, was pronounced dead and the other taken to the hospital where he remains in serious condition.
“Upon arrival, officers found two victims with trauma to their body. The victims were transported to a local hospital. One was pronounced dead. The other remains in grave condition,” Prince George’s County police officer Nicole Hubbard tells WTOP.
The victims’ names were not released. But police do say the man who died was an 18-year-old ninth-grader at Suitland High School.
Another Suitland High student was shot and killed Monday. Hubbard says it doesn’t appear Monday’s shooting is related to Tuesday’s.
In a statement, Brian K. Coleman, spokesperson for Prince George’s County Public Schools said:
“We are horrified to learn that tragedy struck another one of our students within a 24-hour time-span. Our hearts are broken again and we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. We cannot go another day without addressing these unspeakable acts of violence against our students. We are asking for the community’s support as our students, teachers and employees cope with these incidents.”
Prince George’s County school board member Edward Burroughs III tells WTOP that society has “hit a low point” when students are afraid to go to school.
