Threatening notes leave Manassas police scrambling for clues

MANASSAS, Va. – A bizarre series of threats has Manassas police puzzled by the motive and target.

At least eight times over the last few weeks, someone has left notes in the doors of homes threatening violence and containing the same man’s name.

Police spokesman Lowell Nevill says the man leaving the notes knocks on the door or rings the bell and then runs away. They have all been left at night.

“We’ve made contact with the person who’s listed in the notes and he doesn’t have any information at this point that indicates who this might be,” Nevill says.

The man doesn’t have any connection to the homes in the Sumner Lake community and a neighborhood near Byrd Park where the notes were left.

Police won’t detail the nature of the threat, but Neville says there does not appear to be any racial, ethnic or religious motive.

“The way they’re worded, it indicates that’s there’s something maybe not so right about this person,” he says.

Neville says the suspect may not write or speak English well.

The suspect is described in his 20s with a slim build, and as either Hispanic or Middle Eastern in origin.

Police are hunting for more notes that may not have been reported.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the police at 703-257-8092 or Crime Solvers at 703-330-0330.
