The number of flu cases confirmed at Frederick Memorial Hospital is already more than three times the total for last year.
Of the 94 cases confirmed between Jan. 1 and Jan. 10, 10 patients were admitted to the intensive-care unit.
One patient has died of complications from the flu, according to Gail Sonnenberg, infection preventionist at FMH.
“It tells me this is a strong flu,” Sonnenberg said.
From November 2011 to March 2012, the hospital only had 29 confirmed cases of the flu. Two patients were admitted for treatment during last year’s flu season.
