WASHINGTON – A new Costco will open in the District in the next few weeks, bringing much needed jobs and low food prices to a neighborhood that has lacked retail service for years.
Costco plans to open the 154,000-square-foot warehouse store Nov. 29 off New York Avenue in Northeast D.C., just minutes from the Maryland border. Customers must be a member to shop at the club warehouse.
Jobs seekers are invited to apply online at Costco.com.
The store and related development at Dakota Crossing is expected to create 1,200 construction and permanent jobs and to generate $634 million in tax revenue for the District over the next 30 years, according to the District’s office of planning and economic development.
During the next year, the development will add housing and retail shops in the Fort Lincoln neighborhood. Other stores coming to the development include Marshalls, Shoppers Food Warehouse, restaurants and a fitness center.
