WASHINGTON – A 64-year-old Fairfax County man missing for weeks was found dead in a creek bank Sunday less than three miles from his home.
Police conducted two official searches for Mohammad Sharif Yazdani who walked away from him home two weeks before superstorm Sandy hit the region.
A neighbor walking in the 7700 block of Audubon Meadow Way saw Yazdani’s body and called police Sunday afternoon, Nov. 11.
Investigators do not believe there are any signs of foul play in his death. Preliminary reports show Yazdani died by accidentally drowning, according to the Fairfax County medical examiner.
Yazdani disappeared on Oct. 24. His daughter says he suffered from dementia and was concerned his disappearance posed a threat to his health.
Searchers had looked for Yazdani in the heavily wooded area of Huntley Meadows Park in the Hayfield area of Fairfax County where bloodhounds picked up his scent.
The Virginia State Police issued a senior alert on behalf of Fairfax County on Oct. 25.
