ROCKVILLE, Md. – Word that Montgomery County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett may run for a third term has at least one potential candidate reassessing his plans.
Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal, who plans to run, says if Leggett seeks another term, he’ll reconsider.
Councilmember Phil Andrews won’t change his plans.
“I’m going to run for county executive. It doesn’t have any effect on my plans,” Andrews says.
Leggett has repeatedly told both Democrats that he would not run again. He told The Washington Examiner he would think about a re-election campaign after Jan. 1.
There is speculation that Leggett is trying to pre-empt others, including former County Exectutive Doug Duncan who tells WTOP he’s seriously considering running for his old job.
Other councilmembers who are thinking about a run for county executive include Valerie Ervin, Marc Elrich and Nancy Floreen. All are Democrats.
