WASHINGTON – Major league soccer’s disciplinary committee handed D.C. United right back Andy Najar an additional two-game suspension and also slapped him with an undisclosed fine for his actions in D.C. United’s playoff opener last weekend.
Najar was red-carded in game one of the semifinals against the New York Red Bulls for throwing the ball at the head referee.
The additional suspension means Najar will miss the two-game Eastern Conference Finals. Game one is Sunday in Houston with the second game of the series on Nov. 18 at RFK Stadium.
Robbie Russell started in Najar’s place in the second game of the Eastern Conference semifinals and had the game-winning assist.
D.C. will also be with Bill Hamid who was red-carded in Thursday night’s victory – meaning Joe Willis is expected to start in goal this weekend.
