WASHINGTON – Pepco is offering two free trees to customers in an effort to help residents conserve energy and reduce electricity bills.
A total of 2,300 trees will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis until Nov. 5 as part of the utility company’s Energy-Saving Trees Program in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.
If planted in the right location, trees can reduce cooling costs as much as 30 percent, according to Pepco. Trees can also help prevent cold air from seeping into buildings, which can reduce heating costs in the winter.
Pepco customers are eligible for the free trees ranging two to four feet tall. The Arbor Day Foundation will ship the trees to customers, who can use an online tool to figure out the best location to plant the trees.
