WASHINGTON – The Redskins home opener means the return of one important tradition to FedEx Field: tailgating.
The gates to the parking lot open at 9 a.m., giving fans a good four hours to grill a few burgers and crack open a few beers before kickoff. The gates to the stadium open at 11 a.m.
But, there are a few rules to follow.
In the FedEx field lots you can set up coolers, grills, tables and tents in the extra room in your parking space. If you want to take up more than one space you’re supposed to park in the back of the lot, and will be asked to clean up when the lot fills up. An extra parking permit cannot be used for more tailgating space.
To be safe, make sure somebody responsible deals with the grill – both lighting it and putting it out properly before heading into the game.
There are portable toilets and dumpsters available throughout the parking lot.
The team also asks tailgaters to remember that football is a family-friendly game – and to drink responsibly.
