WASHINGTON – Pepco is working to restore fewer than 500 customers who lost power Thursday night. About 350 are in Montgomery County and just over 130 are in Prince George’s County.
Thursday night, there were more than 10,000 new outages. Most were near Georgia Avenue and Layhill Road, from Randolph Road through 108, crossing the ICC. This included parts of Aspen Hill, Rossmoor and Olney.
Bob Hainey, spokesman for Pepco, said the Aspen Hill area “got hammered,” and there’s lightning damage.
BGE had 1,300 outages earlier Thursday, most in Glen Burnie. Power was restored by 11 p.m.
Earlier in Thursday, in the Fort Washington area, 1,500 customers were in the dark. Customers were out for much of the day in the Silver Spring area. The company initially said it expected to have all power restored by 4 p.m.
The Silver Spring outage was caused by a cut line by what a utility spokesman says was likely construction crews. The utility is still investigating what caused the outage in Fort Washington.
About 4,000 customers lost power Thursday afternoon in Fairfax and Prince William counties. Power was restored just before 2 p.m. to all customers, according to Dominion Power.
About 2,300 customers were in the dark near Fairfax City and Prince William County.
A utility spokesperson says a tree fell in the Occoquan area knocking out the power lines around it.
