WASHINGTON – Stealing a base in baseball is difficult enough. Try stealing three at once.
That’s what the Vanderbilt Commodores did in the ninth inning of their Southeastern Conference tournament game against Florida Saturday. After singling home the go-ahead run, Commodores player Anthony Gomez stole second and third.
When Gomez took off for home with the bases loaded, the other Vandy runners also advanced safely.
“It was, `Why not?”‘ Gomez said. “Just try to push them as much as we can.”
He added that the steal of home “kind of happened, spur of the moment.”
