As the 19th annual Frederick Festival of the Arts approaches, organizers are seeking volunteers, event coordinator Tammy O’Connor said.
The free, juried festival, to be held in Carroll Creek Linear Park on June 2 and 3, will feature more than 100 artists representing a variety of skills, from jewelry-making to painting. About 40 percent of this year’s artists are returning from previous years, O’Connor said.
“It offers a wide variety, and you don’t have to travel to D.C. to see well-done art.”
The festival will also include two stages of musical performances, Shakespearean performances, children’s art activities, canoe rides and food vendors. In past years, the number of attendees has reached 25,000.
O’Connor said the festival is one way Frederick lives up to its title of one of AmericanStyle Magazine’s top 25 small cities for art.
Dozens of volunteer opportunities are available, including marking off booth spaces prior to the event, working at the information table, manning the beer and wine garden, greeting visitors and tending booths while artists take restroom or meal breaks, O’Connor said.
All volunteers will receive a catered lunch and a free T-shirt.
