Gas prices dip 9 cents, still above $4

WASHINGTON – For the second week in a row, WTOP’s Pain in the Gas survey shows all types of gas, except diesel, dropped in price.

The average price of a gallon of unleaded regular is down 9 cents to $4.01 over the past week. Prices dropped 2 cents last week.

Mid-grade dropped by 6 cents to $4.23 a gallon. Premium is down by 7 cents to $4.35 a gallon.

Just diesel prices went up 6 cents at $4.28 a gallon.

The average for regular fuel this week is cheapest in Maryland, where regular is $3.95. That compares to $4.96 in Virginia and $4.11 in the District.

One year ago, on April 27, 2011, WTOP’s gas survey showed the average price of a gallon of unleaded regular to be $4.02.
