WASHINGTON – A car ended up in a reflecting pool near the U.S. Capitol Tuesday morning after its occupants attempted to flee from police.
D.C. police attempted to pull the car over for a routine traffic stop near Lower Senate Park — close to D Street and Louisiana Avenue in Northwest — just after 3 a.m. But the car sped off and after a short chase, the driver lost control. The vehicle ended up in the reflecting pool in the park.
The two men in the car attempted to run away, but were captured by police. Officers found a gun in the vehicle.
The car has since been removed from the water. It was not clear if there was any damage.
The park where the incident occurred is near the Russell Senate Office Building and across Constitution Avenue from the U.S. Capitol.
