WASHINGTON – An elderly woman had to be rescued from a pool at a YMCA in Silver Spring Thursday evening.
Montgomery County Fire crews went to the scene at the 9800 block of Hastings Drive just south of the Beltway around 7:30 p.m.
YMCA spokeswoman Jackie Dilworth says lifeguards pulled the woman out of the pool and the aquatics team performed CPR on her to recover her pulse. When emergency crews took the woman to the hospital, Dilworth says she was breathing and had no water in her lungs.
Fire officials say the swimmer has serious injuries, but they’re hopeful she will be OK.
Dilworth says the hospital indicated a heart attack may have caused the incident.
