Angry Birds heads to outer space

WASHINGTON – The popular mobile game turned Facebook phenomena is now moving in a new direction: Gamers will soon be able to travel to space.

The official trailer for Angry Birds Space is futuristic and exciting. Finnish Video Game Developer Rovio Mobile has already coined a hastag, #angrybirdspace.

“@AngryBirds Space trailer debuts gameplay, has science, and finally gives my new iPad purpose as of March 22nd,” said Robert Bowling, CEO at FourzerotwoMedia.

To compliment the new features, Angry Birds Space will also include brand new characters like the Lazer Bird.

NASA first announced the new game at the South by South West music festival in Austin last week with a video preview featuring NASA flight engineer Don Pettit aboard the International Space Station.

“We focused on every detail in development of Angry Birds Space to build a special experience for our fans,” said Peter Vesterbacka, chief marketing officer of Rovio Entertainment, which partnered with NASA on the project.

The new game will be available for download Thursday via Android, iOS, PC and Mac. Its price has not yet been announced. The original is now available for less than a dollar.
