MONROVIA — Get your sea legs ready, landlubbers.
It’s about to get a little piratelike at The Buzz in Monrovia beginning Tuesday.
The restaurant, off Fingerboard Road, will celebrate the classic 1985 movie “The Goonies” with a menu themed around it. Owner Minda Merwin Metz said the restaurant chose the theme —-a new one is picked each week — because an employee is a big fan of the flick, which features ’80s heartthrob Corey Feldman.
The movie is about a group of kids from the “Goon Docks” neighborhood in Astoria, Ore., who set off on a quest to find the fortune of a legendary 17th-century pirate. They want to help raise money to stop their homes from being demolished to make way for a golf course.
Metz said she is still working out details of the menu. What does a pirate’s diet consist of other than limes and rum? The restaurant does not serve rum, but expect bakery items that include it, as well as menu items named after events and people in the movie, including a “Chunks” brownie that includes pretzels and Milk Duds, she said.
Themes in coming weeks will include more of a return to tradition, including a week focused around St. Patrick’s Day, Metz said.
“I’ll definitely have corned-beef, but not cabbage,” Metz said. “It’ll stink the place up.”

Buckeystown Pub opens after renovation
BUCKEYSTOWN — If it felt a little more cozy on your recent visit to the Buckeystown Pub, there’s a good reason why. The pub reopened last week after shutting down for four days for a large-scale renovation that not only raised the roof — well, the ceiling — but also made the local watering-hole feel a little more homey.
Co-owner Dick Johnson said the renovation cost between $12,000 and $15,000. The renovation included removing old paneling and raising a ceiling to expose rafters and a newly installed tin interior cathedral-style ceiling.
“It’s wonderful,” said Pub patron and regular Mike Smith as he sipped from a long-neck bottle Thursday. “I was surprised when I walked in.”
The pub, which has been in operation for about seven years, was formerly Buckeystown Meat Market and processed about 300 deer a year for local hunters, Johnson said.
The pub is planning an April 21 tent-raising party to celebrate the warming weather, Johnson said. For details about the Buckeystown Pub, visit buckeystownpub.com.
