WASHINGTON – The deals online and in stores on Presidents Day have earned it a spot among the nation’s top shopping holidays.
The long weekend is fast becoming a highlight for shoppers, as retailers offer deep discounts rivaling deals on Black Friday. The holiday honoring the nation’s commanders in chief is now second only to Labor Day in sales.
According to Shop It to Me, a website for shopping sales, Presidents Day sales averaged 46.7 percent off clothes, shoes and accessories. The holiday’s average discount outpaces sales the day after Thanksgiving, which average 42.1 percent off, and Cyber Monday, which offers an average of 41.1 percent in discounts.
Deals Plus, another online savings site, lists some of the best Presidents Day sales for shoppers looking to save on clothes, home and garden items and technology.
Some of the retailers offering steep discounts in the store are Nordstrom, where shoppers can save 40 percent; Macy’s, offering 80 percent discounts and Victoria’s Secret, advertising 75 percent off its normal prices.
