Teachers are in luck. They can get as much as $250 deducted for school supplies and classroom materials. Higher education expenses are deductible up to $4,000, if a person’s adjusted gross income is $65,000 or less ($130,000 for a joint return).

Health insurance premiums can be deductible as part of a person’s total medical expenses, but they have to exceed 7.5 percent of a person’s adjusted gross income.
