WASHINGTON – Four animals rescued from a Columbia home where 40 others were found dead are now available for adoption.
The two Siamese cats, white gerbil and dragon lizard were found on Lambeth Court on Jan. 16 after the property manager reported strange odors coming from inside.
Howard County Animal Control officers eventually found 19 dead animals in a freezer and another 21 dead inside the home.
Among them were cats, birds, rabbits and a snake.
The four pets that survived went without food or water for more than a week, according to Howard County Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Schroen.
Since being rescued, the animals have been recuperating at an animal shelter.

Meanwhile, the 40 deceased pets remain at a laboratory while a cause of death is determined.
