WASHINGTON – Normal service has resumed on the Red Line after a cracked rail forced Metro to run trains on a single track between the Friendship Heights and Van Ness stations.
The rail cracked outside the Tenleytown Station on the inbound track.
Repairs backed up the morning commute for several hours while crews fixed the broken rail.
Riders experienced similar delays on the Blue, Yellow and Red lines earlier in January, after rails cracked near the Pentagon station, and between the Fort Totten and Takoma stations. Metro blamed cold weather.
Commuter headaches are greater than usual on the populous route.
“There will always be delays, until they get their act together,” one man tells WTOP’s Kristi King at the Tenleytown station.
