WASHINGTON – With all this talk about the 1 percent, it’s time to find out how those people made their fortunes. It turns out, the answer is in the choice of college major.
According to a survey from the 2010 Census Bureau, the majors that give you the best chance of reaching the 1 percent are pre-med, economics, biochemistry, zoology and biology in that order.
The New York Times crunched the numbers and found that more than one in 10 people with a pre-med degree made it into the 1 percent.
Also, one in eight lawyers is in the 1 percent unless he works for a Wall Street firm where the chances increase to one in three.
