Say goodbye to the incandescent bulb

WASHINGTON – The incandescent lightbulb is becoming a thing of the past. The new year marks the beginning of its initial phase out.

Technically, incandescent lightbulbs are not outlawed, but a new law requires manufacturers to produce more energy efficient lighting. That means fewer traditional bulbs and more compact fluorescent lights and LEDs on the market.

Many people say they aren’t happy about the shift, saying the incandescents are cheaper and produce a softer light.

But supporters say the greener alternatives save money over time because they last so much longer. They also say that LEDs now match the warmer glow of the incandescent.
