WASHINGTON — Step aside, Justin Timberlake. Your moment in the viral spotlight is temporarily over.
A new celebrity has been called out for a date over cyberspace.
Matt, a cadet at Virginia Tech, posted a YouTube video asking Taylor Swift to the university’s traditional Military Ball in February 2012.
Following the online success of a Marine who successfully recruited Timberlake as her date to the Marine Ball, the cadet had some apologetic words for the Grammy Award-winning Swift:
“I know you don’t know me, I’m not a Marine, and I’m a little shorter than you are, but I think you would have a wonderful time if you came.”
He may not be a Devil Dog, but he is a part of a long military tradition. The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, founded in 1872, is ubiquitous on campus and counts seven Medal of Honor recipients among its alumni.
This cadet apologized on behalf of his friends for “spamming” the county singer’s Facebook wall to make sure she got the message. Check it out:
