WASHINGTON – The 11th day of the 11th month of 2011 is lucky for some, romantic for others and perhaps spiritual to still more.
But for fans of the cult classic mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap,” 11-11-11 marks the absolute best time to turn things up “one louder.”
The 1984 film spoofs the heavy metal scene of the era by following the British band Spinal Tap through the peaks and valleys (mostly valleys) of their career. In one of the film’s most insightful scenes, band guitarist Nigel Tufnel (played by Christopher Guest) explains how the group adds a little extra volume to their music.
In honor of the film, the band’s earsplitting equipment and Tufnel’s apt description of how Spinal Tap brings the rock, a Facebook group with the goal of declaring 11-11-11 “Nigel Tufnel Day” has nearly 23,000 members.
Billboard also has put together a list of “11 Loud Moments in Music,” which includes the Loudest Mouths in Rock (hi, Gallagher brothers) and the Loudest Rapper Alive (here’s a hint: “Stop, drop, shut ’em down open up shop…”).
Check out the full list here, and may your life be lived a notch louder today.
