Calzada throws 3 TD passes to lead Incarnate Word past Prairie View A&M, 56-28

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Zach Calzada threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns as Incarnate Word pulled away in the second half to post a 56-28 win over Prairie View A&M in a nonconference game on Saturday night.

Jaden Johnson threw a pair of long touchdown passes in the first quarter to give the Panthers a 14-10 lead to start the second period, hitting Shemar Savage from 42 yards out and Scooter Adams with a 54-yard strike. But Calzada 7-yard touchdown pass to Roy Alexander with 6:02 left in the half put the Huskies in front for good, 19-14.

Calzada, who connected with Jalen Walthall for a 9-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, reconnected to start the second half in a 42-yard touchdown, then ran for a 2-point conversion on Timothy Carter’s five-yard touchdown run with 1:48 left in the third quarter. Dekalon Taylor ran 14 yards for a third-quarter score, then returned a Prairie View punt 62 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Eric Zachery picked off a Richard Torres pass and returned it 50 yards for a Prairie View touchdown to complete the scoring with :42 left in the game.

Calzada completed 23 of 30 pass attempts to lead the Cardinals (3-2), with Walthall catching 12 balls for 170 yards. Taylor gained 84 yards on 17 carries.

Johnson was 12-of-14 passing for 140 yards for Prairie View A&M (2-4).
