LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Clifton McDowell threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third to power McNeese to a 42-14 win over Alcorn State on Saturday night.
The Cowboys (3-2) won their third straight home game but will not play at home again until Nov. 2, when they host Texas A&M-Commerce in their Homecoming game.
McDowell wasted no time getting the Cowboys on the board, hitting Kameran Senegal with a 50-yard pass in the game’s opening minute. Jason Barbie added a five-yard scoring run and Jaylen Jackson caught a blocked Alcorn State punt in the end zone for a touchdown to take a 21-0 lead after a quarter.
McDowell was 15 of 21 for 229 yards and two touchdowns with an interception and added 78 yards and a score on eight carries. Barbie had 10 carries for another 76 yards and a touchdown and D’Angelo Durham carried 10 times for 31 yards and a touchdown.
Xzavier Vaughn completed 16 of 41 pass attempts for 204 yards and added 127 yards rushing and a touchdown on 16 carries for Alcorn State (1-3).
