Horton jumpstarts Colorado State in 38-17 win over Northern Colorado

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Tory Horton returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown less than two minutes in and Colorado State went on to beat Northern Colorado 38-17 on Saturday.

The Bears went three-and-out on the game’s opening drive and Horton returned Hunter Green’s punt for a score. After Jordan Noyes’ 20-yard field goal made it 10-0, Northern Colorado’s Peter Costelli threw a 9-yard score to Fisher Clements with 45 seconds left in the first quarter to reduce the deficit to three.

On Colorado State’s next drive, Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi ran it in from the 2 to end a 10-play, 75-yard drive with 10:23 before halftime. Before intermission, Keegan Holles ran it from the 4 ending a 14-play, 58-yard drive. The two drives combined used 11 minutes of the quarter.

Fowler-Nicolosi threw for 180 yards for Colorado State (2-1).

Costelli threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns for the Bears (0-2).
