WASHINGTON — The cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin are officially at peak bloom, the National Park Service announced Friday.
Seventy percent of the trees at the Tidal Basin are in full bloom as of Friday afternoon, National Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst said.
The peak bloom prediction has been adjusted several times over the past month after the region saw a mixture of warmer and cooler temperatures.
Peak bloom can last, on average, from four-10 days. The forecast in the coming week seems favorable for a peak-bloom period on the longer side, Litterst says.
“The weather forecast through the middle of next week shows slightly cooler temperatures, which will slow the bloom process and help to keep the blossoms on the trees,” Litterst said in a news release.
Any rain or strong winds could cause the blossoms to fall early, he reminds.
